What it Means to be Clean Label Project Certified

Food is deeply personal. It's a part of our daily routines and our fondest memories. At Love Grown, we understand this and believe it is our responsibility to provide you with the highest-quality products that we can – each bowl and cup matters. Our approach to food has been shaped by two values we hold dear: purity and transparency. Today, these values are more important than ever as consumers learn more about what's actually in the products they bring home.

This is where the Clean Label Project comes in.

The Clean Label Project is an independent, nonprofit organization redefining what "clean" truly means. Their testing reveals contaminants that never show up on ingredient lists, but absolutely show up in our food products. This type of testing is the transparency that we believe should be the standard.

Why Pursue a Clean Label Project Certification?

Most people assume that labels like "organic," "natural," or "non-GMO" tell the full story. Sure, these are good starts. But contaminants evade many of these marketing claims, showing up across all sorts of brands, categories, and price points. A Clean Label Certification helps close this gap.

For Love Grown, getting certified allows us to:

  • Validate the purity of our cereals and coffee through independent testing
  • Protect vulnerable groups
  • Go well beyond regulatory requirements
  • Build trust through full transparency
  • Push the industry to do better – and prove that better is possible

What CLP Certification Tests For

Clean label tests for hundreds of contaminants, many of which consumers have never heard of but are widely found in the food supply. These include heavy metals, pesticides and herbicide residues, microplastics and plasticizers, mycotoxins, acrylamides, and other industrial contaminants.

How the CLP Certification Process Works

CLP certification is one of the most rigorous and consumer-forward certification programs in the industry. Here's how it works:

  1. Initial Contact and Brand Review - Brands begin by signing a nondisclosure agreement and meeting with the CLP team. CLP reviews product portfolios, safety protocols, and quality assurance practices.
  2. Chain of Custody Sampling - Rather than accepting manufacturer samples, CLP buys products off of store shelves, mirroring the real-world consumer experience.
  3. Independent Testing - Products are sent to ISO-accredited analytical chemistry labs where they are tested forall four major heavy metals, 300+ pesticides, glyphosate and AMPA, plaiticizers (BPA, BPS, phthalates), and additional contaminants.
  4. Analysis and Results Review - CLP reviews test result with the laboratory and the brand. To qualify for certification, results must comply with State of Claifornia Prop 65 thresholds and other compliance requirements. If a product meets these standards, it becomes CLP certified.
  5. Ongoing compliance - Certification doesn't end after one test. CLP conducts ungoing, unannounced sampling and testing to ensure products continue to meet the same high standards.

Where Love Grown Fits In

We are proud to say that Love Grown cereal and coffee are Clean Label Project certified. This certification reinforces what we've always prioritized – whole ingredients, transparent reporting, and safety standards built for real families.

This progress is exciting, but we also know that the work doesn't stop here; clean food is an ongoing effort. That's why we're working with the CLP on deeper "field-to-bowl" and "bean-to-bag" research to understand exactly where contaminants enter the supply chain and how to reduce them even further.

CLP Certification is an important milestone. For us, it is only the beginning. We're committed to raising the bar for transparency and safety not just in our own products, but across the entire food industry.

At Love Grown, we will keep pushing forward, one bowl, cup, and test at a time. And we're excited to have you around for it.
