"Is it weird to have Love Grown at my wedding?" was a question I never thought I'd ask myself.
As founders, we can be a bit obsessed with our products. We talk about them incessantly and in some ways we're always "selling" even when we don't want to be. We eat, sleep and in my case inhale our stuff. It never stops. As a result, we're also constantly working on boundaries so our companies don't become our entire personalities.
So when it came to my wedding, surely I would keep Love Grown out of this. Wouldn't I?
Well... here's the thing.
Everything about our wedding was curated by us. We did it DIY style (no planner, no package to buy into - all us). We wanted everything about our wedding to feel like it really embodied who we are; to use the opportunity to share more of ourselves and the love we share with the people in our lives that we love the most.
When I thought about that, it was obvious: of course Love Grown, my business child, would have to be there.
Luckily, there was a perfect way to share Love Grown with our friends and family.
It wasn't throwing cereal instead of rice as we exited the church. Though that would have been awesome... it was strongly discouraged due to clean up required.
Instead, we had signature drinks to select. And suddenly, mine was OBVIOUS. An espresso martini! We needed a vodka drink... and is there a better pick me up beverage for a night of dancing? The answer is no, of course.
So I reached out to Mike at Disco Drinks and pitched him the idea. Luckily, he was into it! He said cold brew tends to work better than any other brew for espresso martinis and he was willing to see how ours performed. I sent him some brew bags, and a few days later, I got a text from him. He loved our cold brew! And it was going to work beautifully in an espresso martini.
On the day of our wedding, Dani and I waltzed into our reception to find friends and family sipping the cold brew martinis. Kate was on hand to take some photos and videos like the diligent Love Grown-er that she is. And by god, it was delicious! My mouth is watering just thinking about it. Do I need to go out tonight?
My favorite part? Someone decided that cold brew "shots" were a great idea. And THEY WERE! A little pick me up without contributing to the hangover the next day was simply perfection. There's a great video (thanks Kate!) of my cousin, my new nephew, my Dad, and friends all taking a cold brew shot together. I will never forget it.
They say work and play don't mix, but in this case, I can't agree. I was thrilled to share one of my favorite creations with the people I love in such a special way.
