Why did we launch cold brew?
I have a confession to make. I am a cold brew fanatic - it’s really the only coffee I consume (except for the occasional cappuccino). I love how rich it is in flavor and yet how smooth. The way it hits the perfect temperature with just the right amount of ice. It’s my favorite morning drink, travel companion and “little reward.” I simply cannot live without it.
I’ve been brewing it at home since Covid, and the results have been passable but not great. My home brew was NEVER as good as what I could buy at my local coffee shop, and my local coffee shop cold brew is too expensive for every day. I was sacrificing but making do… but always looking for a better way to make delicious cold brew at home.
So you could say this was a major passion project for me: cracking the cold brew code. I know I’m not alone in my love (cold drinks account for over 75% of Starbucks sales, which is crazy to me). So I decided to make this a Love Grown project.
How did we do it?
I had seen a few ‘brew bags’ in the past, but they’re not easy to find. After testing one out, I knew this was the way to go and had to find someone who would be willing to try to figure this out with me. Just a few messages later, I found our guy. Ken makes award winning coffee. He hadn’t done this before, but he was excited by the idea and willing to try making some by hand. No more than two weeks later, I received a sample - absolutely crazy! And the rest is history. We worked with the Clean Label Project to test the coffee, ensuring we were sourcing the purest beans while prioritizing a blend designed for cold brew perfection. All in all it took less than a few months to get this product from idea to site!
What’s special about our cold brew?
We put a lot of thought into what our cold brew HAD to do. It had to be as delicious as any coffee shop cold brew (so that i wouldn’t be tempted to buy some even though i have brewed cold brew sitting in my fridge). It had to be smooth, low acid, easy drinking. It had to brew overnight - not 48+ hours like some of my other brew methods. It had to be super pure - clean label, plastic-free… all of the standards we hold all of our coffee to. And, most importantly, it had to be cheaper than cold brew bought at a cafe OR the bottled kind you can buy at the grocery store.
I’m proud to say that our cold brew passes all of my criteria with flying colors. I absolutely love it, and I am certain you will, too.
How does it work?
I can’t overemphasize how easy it is. I recommend getting our starter kit, which includes a beautiful brew bottle made of glass and silicone.
To brew, you simply:
Drop an easy brew bag into the brew bottle (or any pitcher)
Fill with up to 32oz of water
Place in the fridge - let it steep while you sleep
Wake up to delicious cold brew
